Five practical checks for readability, navigation, images and forms on real devices.
1. Read the main message on a small screen
Open the homepage on a phone. Can a visitor quickly understand what you offer and what to do next? Increase the text size as well. Check that headings are not clipped, lines do not overflow and the content remains usable when zoomed.
2. Try the menu and links
Open and close the menu, then navigate to your most important service. Touch targets should be distinct, and keyboard focus should remain visible. Information revealed by hovering should also be accessible on a touch device.
3. Check images and page weight
Displaying a large image on a small screen does not make its file smaller. Prepare images for their intended size, add meaningful alternative text and provide suitable sizes for different screens where possible. Test on slower connections as well as fast office Wi-Fi.
4. Complete the form from start to finish
Fields need clear labels. When an entry is missing or invalid, the form should explain what to fix. After submission, describe only what actually happened: opening an email draft is different from delivering a message to a server.
5. Repeat the real user journey
Go from a blog article to a service page and then to contact. Try the back button, language selection and portrait-to-landscape rotation. Check more than one browser and device. Prioritise problems by how much they prevent people from completing their task, rather than by visual detail alone.
